Barwell Lamborghini makes Pro-Am switch for 2020 Total 24 Hours of Spa assault

Barwell Motorsport has confirmed its second GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS programme for 2020, naming a strong driver line-up to compete for Pro-Am honours in the Endurance Cup.

The news of another Lamborghini Huracan entry follows the recent announcement of Barwell's continuing Silver Cup effort. In both cases, the British squad will look to add more success at the Total 24 Hours of Spa following a dominant Am Cup victory in 2018 and Silver Cup honours last term.

Elements of both programmes will combine to form the new Pro-Am crew. Barwell veteran Leo Machitski, who took the chequered flag in 2018, will remain on board as a full-season driver. He will be joined by rising star Sandy Mitchell, who moves over from the Silver Cup effort to compete as the team's nominated pro. Experienced touring car racer Rob Collard completes an impressive full-season Endurance Cup crew.

Barwell has also announced its fourth driver for the Total 24 Hours of Spa, with Rob's son Ricky Collard joining the team for the marquee event. The younger Collard had been set to contest the 2020 season as part of R-Motorsport's Aston Martin programme, but with the Swiss squad electing to stand down until next term he became available to bolster the Barwell crew.

The Collards will continue a longstanding tradition of family members sharing the same car at the Belgian endurance classic. The best result for a father-son duo during the GT era is ninth overall, which was achieved by the Felbermayr and Ried families in 2004.

The Barwell Lamborghini adds further strength to the Endurance Cup's Pro-Am class, which will run with increased numbers this term. This includes Barwell's former Am Cup rival Garage 59, as well as established front-runners such as AKKA ASP, AF Corse and RAM Racing.

The GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS campaign begins with a three-hour Endurance Cup event at Imola on 25/26 July. A six-hour contest at the Nurburgring will follow on 5/6 September, with the German round's expanded format providing the ideal preparation for this year's Total 24 Hours (22-25 October).
