Porsche firms up plans to defend Total 24 Hours of Spa victory in 2020

Porsche will chase back-to-back Total 24 Hours of Spa victories next year as part of its continued presence in the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli and GT World Challenge Europe (formerly the Blancpain GT Series).

The German manufacturer provided details of its 2020 plans during the annual Night of Champions event at its facility in Weissach, though its final driver line-ups are yet to be revealed.

What we do know is that the brand will once again make use of its global network of customer teams as part of a full-season assault on the IGTC, which, like the the renamed GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, features Spa as its marquee race.

The Stuttgart marque claimed a one-two finish at this year's running thanks to GPX Racing and ROWE Racing, returning the Porsche name to the top step for the first time since 2010. Five of the brand's 911 GT3 R machines finished among the overall top-five to cap a magnificent showing in the Ardennes.

This helped the brand to win the manufacturers' crown in the globe-trotting IGTC championship – where Porsche driver Dennis Olsen also picked up the drivers' title – while ROWE Racing finished third in the Endurance Cup after making a successful switch from BMW equipment.

Matt Campbell, Dirk Werner and Mathieu Jaminet will remain part of the brand's IGTC programme for 2020 and will be joined by Patrick Pilet, Thomas Preining and Matteo Cairoli. All will therefore be on the grid at the 24 Hours.

Porsche customer programmes will compete in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, with the aforementioned drivers set to be among those behind the wheel throughout the five-round championship. Further factory drivers are likely to be added at Spa.

It is yet to be confirmed which teams will compete with Porsche in GT World Challenge Europe. ROWE, GPX and Dinamic Motorsport all ran full-season Endurance efforts last term, with the latter squad winning the season-opening trip to Monza.
