- Silver Cup title defence confirmed with Mercedes-AMG GT3
- Team principal Ezequiel Companc returns as lead driver
- Striking new livery to debut in team’s second season
Madpanda Motorsport confirms its 2021 racing programme, with a return to Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS planned for the team’s second year of competition.
The Barcelona-based operation will continue to field its No. 90 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in the Silver Cup throughout the GTWC Europe season, racing in both the Sprint and Endurance Cups. As reigning Silver Cup teams’ champion, Madpanda Motorsport has a strong starting point as it vies to add the individual Silver Sprint and Silver Endurance titles to its tally, while defending its combined Silver trophy.
Ahead of this assault on Europe’s biggest GT championship, the Madpanda Mercedes has been given a striking new livery, which will debut in the official tests at Circuit Paul Ricard later this month. Last year’s colour scheme quickly became a fan favourite, but the new black base adorned with dozens of panda faces is sure to turn even more heads.
Team principal Ezequiel Companc (aged 26, from Argentina) will return to the cockpit once again this year, acting as the anchor driver at every round. Last year, he was crowned Silver Cup drivers’ champion along with the team’s accolade. During the off-season, Ezequiel has led the team’s development and recently completed two tests in February, at Valencia and Monza.
The team is evaluating a number of drivers for the upcoming season, including the option to have a talented roster of drivers alternating at each Sprint Cup round.
Ezequiel Companc, team principal and driver: “It’s exciting to confirm our return to GT World Challenge Europe, a championship that I have enjoyed being a part of for many years, and that we have great memories of from last year. Our pre-season programme is going very well so far, with two productive tests and more to come. We have been evaluating and testing drivers, so we’re looking to get that locked up soon, but there is still a lot of work to be done before the first round at Monza. Last but not least, we’re really proud to show our new livery. The 2020 design was hugely popular and we’re grateful for all our fans’ support, so we hope they like this year’s design just as much - or more!”
